Abstract for "Introduction to CIELAB"

This presentation will provide an overview of CIELAB for the description of color and color difference. Attendees who are new to the field of color and color communication will be introduced to CIELAB for numerical description of color.

Speaker bios

Ann Laidlaw works with manufacturing and retail supply chains at ACL Color Consulting LLC.  She received her BS in Textile Science from University of California, Davis, and MS in Color Science from Clemson University.  Her industrial career included X-Rite Inc, GretagMacbeth, SheLyn, and Burlington Industries. Throughout these companies, Ann worked to investigate innovative applications of color management for textiles and related industries.  She is active in several color-related organizations, including ISCC, CORM, SPE, and DCC. She has served on ISCC, AATCC, and CORM Boards in the past, and previously served as the ISCC Secretary.  She is active in AATCC, and is a former chair of both the Color Measurement Test Methods (RA36) committee and the C2C (Concept to Consumer) Interest Group. She received the ISCC Nickerson Award and the AATCC Chapin Award for service.

Jodi Baker, Applications Engineer Konica Minolta Sensing Americas

Jodi received her Master of Science from Rochester Institute of Technology and BFA from Indiana University. She has conducted and developed software and hardware training for sales, support, and end users. She is responsible for pre-sales and post-sales support for color measurement instruments, quality control and formulation software. She enjoys working with customers to find the right solutions for their color measurement needs. She also has 20 years of experience in the Graphic Arts, Digital Imaging industry and 10 years of experience in color measurement for the Color and Appearance Industry.

Each of these fields enriches the others, furthering the general objective of color education.
